Top Girls by Caryl Churchill

A small group of senior members performed one of FYTG's autumn productions 'Top Girls'. The all female cast presented this powerful portrait of feminism in the 1980's depicting, in full force, the rise of the dilemma for young women between career success and having a family, an issue we still struggle with today, making this piece relevant and important even though the 80's setting can seem outmoded. It presented many challenges for the cast because of the subject matter, the period and most of all the need to present themselves as mature women of all ages.

This piece of drama is one of the most demanding projects FYTG have undertaken to date but it was a great success and a stepping stone for those taking part into adult theatre.

The first scene of this play is what most people remember and it isn’t hard to see why. We are taken straight into an imaginary dinner celebration where strange characters from history and fantasy tell their remarkable stories fuelled by wine and brandy. As you might have guessed everything does not go to plan.
